Some comments from our judge...!

There was a high standard of work. The poetry and prose was full of beautifully desciptive use of imagery and evocative story telling. It was throughly enjoyable to listen to everybody's work.

I hope poetry and creative writing will always be an enjoyable part of people's lives.

It was nice to hear the imagination and humour in so many of the pieces, plus the use of rythm and sounds in the delivery of the poems.

Excellent work everyone!

James - Wonderful use of words, images and sounds. It made me smile every time I listen to it.

Alex-Beautifully descriptive and evocative.

Regan - Honest, deep and reflective. Beautifully written.

Special mention to Shane and Sam - Fun, upbeat performance of a nicely observed piece of writing.

Terms and conditions 2010.

As part of the activities surrounding National Poetry Day Rodney Libraries is running a poetry competition for Year 4 -13. Poetry shouldn’t stay on the page – it needs to be shared and read aloud. Podcasting poetry gives children and teens the opportunity to share their creativity with others around Rodney District and New Zealand.

Write your poem and then record it. The poem can either be emailed as an attachment or hosted on the internet and the link included in the email entry.

There are two categories: Year 4 – 8; Year 9 – 13.

How to enter
All entries are via email to rodneylibraries@yahoo.com.au and must have the following information included:
§ Name of author
§ Library card number (if known)
§ Contact details – address and phone number
§ School and Year
§ Link to podcast or attached file

Competition runs from the 1st to the 30th of June 2010. The last day for entries is Wednesday the 30th of June 2010. Winners will be notified by the 30th of July 2010.

Just to let you know: Poetry Aloud is coming up for 2010! It is kicking off on the 1st of June - so start writing those poems and practising how to record them!
